Welcome to Waypoint Federal Credit Union
Your Financial Partner for Every Milestone. Your Life. Your Goals. Your Waypoint.
CorePlus and Scient are now Waypoint Federal Credit Union, one credit union built from the shared strength of two trusted, community-rooted institutions serving Connecticut.
This is the moment we had been building toward: a unified brand, a shared name, and a renewed commitment to the members at the center of everything we do.

Why Waypoint?
A waypoint is a trusted marker on a journey, a point that helps you understand where you are, where you are headed, and how to move forward. That is our role in your financial life.
Waypoint Federal Credit Union is here to be a steady partner through everyday decisions, major milestones, and long-term goals. Whether you are managing daily finances, buying a home, growing your savings, or planning for the future, Waypoint is here to help you move ahead with confidence.
Your Life. Your Goals. Your Waypoint.

A Symbol Made Just for Us

This modern “W” icon was custom-designed to represent our new future together.
Your Financial Path
Look at the space between the two shapes. It forms a path symbolizing the personal journey to financial success.
Two Teams, One Family
The two shapes blend together, celebrating the partnership between our credit unions and our members.
Moving Forward and Upward
The right side of the logo acts like a compass needle pointing up and to the right, showing our commitment to helping your savings grow.
What Happens Next
You will continue to see the Waypoint name, logo, and look across our website, communications, digital banking, branches, and account materials. If you spot both names for a while, that is expected. CorePlus and Scient are becoming Waypoint, and the two may appear side by side until the changeover is complete.
Any changes that affect your accounts or how you bank will be communicated clearly and well in advance. This transition was carefully planned with one goal in mind: keeping any disruption to our members to a minimum.
Stronger Together
Waypoint brings together the experience, talent, technology, and community commitment of CorePlus and Scient. As one credit union, we are better able to invest in the service, tools, and people our members count on, while staying local and rooted in the communities we have always served.

What This Merger of Equals Means for You
Expanded Products and Services
With a larger organization comes economies of scale. We pride ourselves in our ability to keep up with the most innovative technology and services, but that is only sustainable for so long in our ever-changing environment. This combined organization is able to continue investing in the channels that provide a top-of-the-line experience for our members that rivals any large bank or credit union.
Larger Branch Network
Members have access to a larger branch network. Pfizer employees can use the on-campus location, and our consolidated Groton branch offers drive-up teller lanes, which the former CorePlus Groton branch did not. Members can also access the New London and New Haven locations, with some branches offering extended and Saturday hours.
Increased Community Impact
Both credit unions had a steadfast commitment to serving the communities in which they operate and beyond. The additional resources gained from this merger allow us to continue providing support to our communities, be it through monetary, volunteer, or educational efforts. We also plan to add a community impact department to our team, whose sole focus will be to provide financial resources and education to our communities.
Frequently Asked Questions
This merger was a strategic decision made by both organizations to create a stronger, more competitive financial institution. By combining our unique strengths and leveraging complementary resources, we are able to offer broader financial solutions, improved technologies, and enhanced services to all our members. Together, we are better positioned to compete regionally, grow sustainably, and continue our shared mission of supporting the financial wellness of our members and communities.
Scient was founded in 1968 by four Pfizer pharmaceutical scientists as Pfizer Employees Credit Union. Renamed Scient in 2012, from Ledge Light Federal Credit Union, the credit union underwent several mergers, with New Haven Postal Employees Credit Union in 2015 and the New London Municipal Employees Credit Union in 2022. Scient was a full-service credit union that provided exceptional service to its members and focused on improving people’s lives with creative and competitive solutions. Its culture was grounded in integrity, trust, and the desire to help others. Scient had branches in Groton, New London, and New Haven, CT, and served almost 19,000 members.
The merger followed a formal member approval process, with an effective date of October 2025. A core processor conversion was planned for the second quarter of 2026. Members can use the combined credit union’s services at all branch locations.
Unlike traditional acquisitions, this was not one organization taking over another. It was a true merger of equals, uniting two respected credit unions to grow and evolve together.
The Boards of Directors of both credit unions considered this a merger of equals. Although the two credit unions were similar in size and scope, only one credit union charter number could be retained. After extensive due diligence, our team of accountants determined it would be more financially beneficial to retain the CorePlus charter number. Because Scient was moving to that charter number, Scient members were required by regulation to vote.
Members continue to enjoy familiar banking products, services, and staff.
Once the conversion is complete, members can use our services at any of the combined credit union’s branches. For general banking transactions, members may continue to use the Shared Branching Network at either institution.
All accounts continue to be insured by the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund, which is backed by the full faith and credit of the U.S. Government and the National Credit Union Administration.
The rates on fixed-rate loans and certificates remain the same until the end of their existing terms. Other products adjust as normal due to market conditions.
Our staff are our largest asset and were essential to a successful merger. Both credit unions shared a commitment to stability, and no reductions in staffing were planned.
Leadership was aligned to incorporate the values and unique identities of both institutions. Ray Currier, former President and CEO of CorePlus, continues as CEO of the new organization. Chris Maynard, former President and CEO of Scient, holds the role of President.
All existing locations remained open, with the exception of the former CorePlus Groton branch, which was combined with the larger Groton branch and has two drive-up lanes to serve members more efficiently.
Yes. As community credit unions, both organizations prided themselves on delivering a stellar member service experience. This new organization allows for expanded training resources to ensure that we continue to exceed your expectations each time we serve you.
The board of directors of our combined organization is composed of members from both previous boards.
Waypoint Federal Credit Union. A new brand was developed to represent the combined identity of both credit unions, and employees and members were engaged in shaping it.
Yes.
Any changes to online banking are communicated clearly and in advance of any action being needed.
