Guarding what makes you, you.
Identity Theft Protection
Identity theft happens when someone uses your details to open accounts or borrow in your name. This page covers how to make that harder, and what to do first if it happens.
Waypoint does not sell an identity monitoring or restoration service. What we offer is guidance, a review of your accounts when something looks wrong, and a clear route to the agencies that can act.
What You Should Know
Read Your Reports
Check all three credit reports regularly. New accounts you do not recognize are the signal.
Shred, Do Not Bin
Statements, receipts, credit offers, and unused checks all carry usable details.
Guard Your Details
Legitimate companies do not ask for personal information by email, text, or cold call.
Lock Down Passwords
A different password on every account, and two-factor authentication wherever offered.
Consider a Credit Freeze
A freeze at each bureau is free and blocks new credit being opened in your name.
Shred Days
Waypoint will continue hosting public shred events.
If Your Identity Is Stolen, Do This
Work through these in order. The first two limit the damage, and the rest build the paper trail you will need to get things reversed.
Step 1
Call Waypoint at 860-886-0576 so we can review your accounts and watch for activity.
Step 2
Place a fraud alert with any one credit bureau. That bureau must notify the other two.
Step 3
Order your credit reports from all three bureaus and read each one carefully.
Step 4
Report the theft at IdentityTheft.gov, the federal recovery site, and save the report.
Step 5
File a police report with your local department, and keep a copy for your records.

Common Questions
A fraud alert tells lenders to take extra steps to verify who you are before opening credit. A security freeze goes further and blocks new credit from being opened at all until you lift it. Both are free, and you can have both.
No. Standalone identity theft insurance and monitoring are not available from Waypoint.
It varies a great deal, from weeks to much longer, depending on how many accounts were opened and how quickly it was caught. Reporting early and keeping every document shortens it more than anything else you can do.
