Waypoint will never ask for your password, PIN, or a one-time code. Not by call, text, or email.
Know the tactic and it stops working.
Active Fraud Alerts
Scams change, but the tactics repeat. Here is what is reaching members now, how each one is built, and the detail that gives it away.
Phishing and Text Message Scams
Someone contacts you claiming to be from your credit union, saying your account has been compromised. They ask you to confirm your identity, click a link, or read back a code that has just arrived by text. That code is the last thing standing between them and your account. Waypoint will never ask you for it.
The tell: they contacted you, and they need something from you right now.
Tech Support and Pop-Up Scams
A pop-up or advert appears warning that your device is infected, with a number to call. The number belongs to the scammer. They will ask for remote access, then have you log into your accounts on the screen they are watching, and move money while you sit there. The pop-up itself is harmless. Close it and it goes away.
The tell: a warning on your screen that gives you a phone number to call.
Fake Order and Delivery Notices
An email or text says a large purchase was made on your account, or a parcel could not be delivered, and gives you a number to call or a link to follow. Neither belongs to the company named. Open the retailer’s own app, log in as you normally would, and check your order history. If it is not there, it did not happen.
The tell: a shocking charge, and a phone number supplied for your convenience.
Check Fraud
Checks are stolen from mailboxes, washed with solvent, and rewritten for a larger amount to a different name. It can be weeks before you notice, because the check clears looking legitimate. Deposit outgoing checks inside a post office rather than a home mailbox, and read your statement line by line.
What You Should Know
Do Not Use Their Number
Call the number on your card or statement instead. Never the one in the message.
Never Read Back a Code
A one-time code is a key. Nobody legitimate will ever ask you to say it aloud.
Do Not Grant Remote Access
Waypoint will never ask you to install software so we can view your device.

Yes, please. Even if you did not fall for it, knowing what is circulating helps us warn other members. Call 860-886-0576 and tell us what the message said and how it reached you.
The Federal Trade Commission publishes current consumer alerts, and the National Credit Union Administration keeps fraud resources for credit union members. Both are free and neither will ask you for account information.
