Sending money that has to arrive today.
Wire Transfers at Waypoint Credit Union
A wire moves money directly between financial institutions. It is used for closings, large purchases, and payments that cannot wait, and once it is sent it is difficult to reverse.
Sending a Wire From Your Account
- The recipient’s full legal name and address, exactly as their institution has it on file.
- The receiving institution’s name, routing number, and, for international wires, its SWIFT code.
- The recipient’s account number at that institution.
- The exact amount, and enough available funds to cover the amount plus the fee.

Common Questions
An ACH transfer moves in batches through an automated network and usually costs nothing. A wire moves individually between institutions, carries a fee, and settles far faster. If the money does not have to arrive today, an ACH transfer is almost always the cheaper choice.
Treat urgency as a warning sign. Wire fraud almost always involves pressure and a deadline, and wired funds are rarely recoverable. Verify the request by calling the person or company on a number you already had, never a number from the message asking you to send.
You can ask us to try to recall a wire, but funds are not likely to be recovered once the wire has been sent.
Yes. A wire must be credited to a Waypoint account, so the recipient has to be a member with an open account before the wire arrives.
